High five: the Jumbo Group remains at the peak of Italian luxury furnishings
The Jumbo Group has long been a champion of Italian luxury design and, as well as producing it own high-end homes collection, is known for translating influential fashion brands into equally innovative interiors and furnishing powerhouses. Just as fashion designers understand that the wearer defines a garment, the Jumbo Group understands that a good interior must fit and enhance the lives of the people who occupy it – and, through its five brands, offers quality design for every taste.
Creative director Livio Ballabio has the challenge of working across the Jumbo Group’s unique brands: Jumbo Collection, Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors, Gianfranco Ferré Home, Etro Home Interiors, and JCP. Though they each have their own creative vision, all five are united by three common goals: the pursuit of quality; the ability to exploit the artistic potential of the Italian manufacturing industry with 100 per cent Made in Italy specialised suppliers; and, above all, the desire to experiment.

The historic Jumbo Collection, which combines contemporary design with heritage techniques, encapsulates the quality of authentic Italian upholstery. Established in 1985, the brand is known internationally for its refined approach to furnishings, alongside the equal emphasis it places on craftsmanship, continuous research and innovation, from materials to production. Take the New Era inspiration behind the collections, for example, which points towards essentialist interpretations of classical objects, blending historic influence with the clean lines of today.
Elsewhere, Gianfranco Ferré Home presented its recent collection at Milan’s Salone del Mobile. The interiors line was established in 2014, epitomising the timelessness and sophistication of the late Italian fashion stalwart Gianfranco Ferré himself. Ferré was a designer who embraced the unexpected – a legacy that sings in the latest interiors collection, a medley of traditional tartans, muted by contemporary sculptural leathers.
The vivid animal prints favoured by Roberto Cavalli Home Interiors speak of glamour, sensuality and passion. Great care and attention are devoted to the choice of rich materials, each selected to create luxurious and dramatic settings with an individual touch.
Etro Home Interiors can trace its roots back to 1968, when Gimmo Etro, the brand’s founder, launched a range of prestigious fabrics using noble and natural fibres, which he embellished with original designs and bold colours. The brand’s oriental Paisley pattern, for example, evokes the spirit of nomadic travel.
Meanwhile, the sculptural furnishings of JCP blend cool lines and geometric twists. Not only does this brand represent the synergy of past, present and future, but, with its conceptual pieces, it points to the intersection of art and design.
It is the job of Ballabio and his team to curate this contemporary-meets-heritage universe of design.
