Selle Royal has released the first ever e-bike specific saddle, designed completely around the added forces of a motor

They say the new seat – the eZone – was designed in partnership with BMW after a “comprehensive” study of e-bike users.

As you might expect from such a saddle, it’s jammed full of technology, most of which is designed around the increased forces of the motor and the effect these have on the rider.

For example, the saddle has a raised back end to prevent back sliding and a “zonal design” to enhance control and balance for added safety during acceleration.

Selle Royal argues that its study found that the number one cause of e-bike accidents is the “slippage factor” when accelerating from a stop or shifting to a higher gear.

According to Selle Royal, the saddle is designed for the “modern commuter, leisure, touring, off-road and urban” rider. As such, it has a shorter nose to aid in mounting and its tridimensional 3D Skingel padding and structure reduces pressure by a supposed 40%.

The “wings” of the saddle also, supposedly, allow the rider to steer and thrust with great precision, while the rest of the saddle has been designed to cope with the “wave”effect caused by sudden forward movement.
