Canon has a long heritage going back many decades, and in 2017 celebrated the 30th anniversary of the EOS System that was launched in March 1987 with the EOS 650 35mm SLR and EF Lenses. Photography has changed a lot since then, and the Canon EOS 77D is one of several Canon DSLR launches in this anniversary year.

The EOS 77D replaces the EOS 760D, released in early 2015, and shares many of its characteristics with the still current Canon EOS M3. The 77D is a much more impressive camera featuring a host of powerful functions that have filtered down from more advanced models in the EOS line-up. But it keeps its feet firmly on the ground with features such as a new Guided User Interface designed to help beginners learn various camera settings. This can be switched off, meaning more advanced users won’t be bombarded with unnecessary advice.

Built around a 24.2-million-pixel APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 processor, the EOS 77D is a speedy performer capable of shooting in raw at up to 6fps. This sensor and processor combination also provides a native ISO range of 100-25,600 with an extended range available up to ISO 51,200 – making this a highly capable camera for low light shooting, and provides an important improvement on its predecessor, the EOS 760D. Adding to these impressive specifications, the EOS 77D offers the world’s fastest autofocus in Live View mode among interchangeable-lens digital cameras with APS-C sized sensors and phase-difference detection AF, at just 0.03sec.
